Pondicherry Engineering College is an Institution promoted and fully funded by the Government of Puducherry. The College was started in 1984 under the VII Five Year Plan. It is an autonomous Institution for the purposes of administration, staff recruitment and College development and is managed by a Board of Governors. The College is affiliated to Pondicherry University, Pondicherry, for the academic purposes. The College has been growing from strength to strength since its inception.

Mr Chandramouly , Alumnus 2004 (B.Tech. IT), currently working as Senior Software Engineer at Twitter, California U.S.A.  had interactions with prefinal and final year B.Tech(CSE),B.Tech(IT) and M.C.A. students on 11.01.2018 at CSE Seminar Hall. He inspired and motivated students to orient themselves to become part of  Software Pioneers  like Twitter, Facebook, Whatsapp and Amazon. Mr Chandramouly enlightened the students about the behavior assessment during coding interviews. Dr. K. Saruladha, Associate Professor, CSE made arrangements for the successful conduct of this event.

The department of EEE, Pondicherry Engineering College, under RUSA program of MHRD conducted a one day seminar on ‘Gender sensitivity: Dignity in equality” for III year students of EEE department on 8th January 2018Prof.Dananjayan, Principal, Prof.Vivekanandan, Dean Students, Prof.Alamelu, HoD felicitated the program.  Mr.Peter Premkumar and Mrs. Sally addressed the students about the physical, mental, psychological change from childhood and adulthood and how to cope up with the change in understanding opposite sex in an interactive way.   Prof.Elanseralathan and Prof.Rajathy coordinated the program. Similar program is also scheduled for IV year EEE students on 23rd Jan 18.

PEC is one of the few selected nodal centres in the nation to host SMART INDIA HACKATHON 2018. 45+ Union Ministries, 18 state Governments, 401 problem statements are waiting for the smart solutions by the students. PEC is one of the few selected nodal centres for SIH 2018. Students are invited to participate by submitting proposals on or before 31st December, 2017.

The Valedictory function of AICTE-QIP Sponsored Short Term Course on "Earthquake Resistant Design of Structures" was held on Friday, the 22nd  December, 2017. Dr. G.Gerald Moses, Prof. & Head welcomed the gathering. Prof.P.Dananjayan, the Principal Presided over the function.  
Dr.D.Ramaseshu, Professor, National Institute of Technology, Warangal delivered the Valedictory address and distributed certificates to the participants.  Dr.P.Ramadoss, Coordinator presented report on STC. The participants gave feedback about the STC. Dr.S.Palanivel, Coordinator proposed the vote of thanks.

AICTE-QIP sponsored  Short Term Course on "Earthquake Resistant Design of Structures" was inaugurated on Monday, the 18th December, 2017 at the Seminar Hall, Civil Engineering. Dr. G.Gerald Moses, Prof. & Head welcomed the gathering. Prof.P.Dananjayan, the Principal Presided over the function.   Dr.S.Himavathi, QIP-Institute Coordinator presented felicitation address. Dr.K.Balaji Rao, Chief Scientist & Advisor, CSIR-Structural Engineering Research Centre, Chennai delivered the Inaugural address. Dr.S.Palanivel, Coordinator presented the outline of the course contents and Dr.P.Ramadoss, Coordinator proposed vote of thanks

Innovation Club of PEC has organised a motivational talk on 11th December 2017. Convenor of the club, Dr.K.Pandurangan welcomed the gathering. Prof. P.Dananjayan, Principal, PEC delivered the presidential address.
Dr. Navi Radjou, Up-lifter, Catalyser, Connector, Fellow at Judge Business School, University of Cambridge and author of several books delivered a motivational talk on"Frugal Innovations". He was insisting on developing new products which are sustainable and uses little of resources. He insisted that innovation will be instigated only when the need is from the heart and benefits many on Earth.
Dr.K.Saruladha, Associate Professor, CSE delivered the vote of thanks and Dr.R.Sandanalakshmi, Assistant Professor, ECE made the arrangements for the programme.

A National AICTE sponsored two weeks FDP on “Smart Grid and Clean Energy Technologies (SGCET)” was organised by the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering during 11-22, December 2017.  The FDP was inaugurated by Er. D.Ravi, Superintending Engineer cum Head of the Department, Reforms Project Management cell, Electricity Department, Puducherry. Dr.P. Dananjayan, Principal presided over the function. Dr.Alamelu Nachiappan, Professor & Head, EEE Department felicitated the function. Dr. C. Christober Asir Rajan, Professor, EEE Department coordinated the FDP.
The PEC Alumni Association in association with Le Banyan de PEC (a NGO and registered charitable society supported by Alumni of PEC) organized an invited awareness program on Road Safety on Tuesday, the 5th December, 2017. Dr. G. Zayaraz, the Coordinator, PECAA welcomed the gathering. Dr. T. G. Palanivel, the former Principal, PEC and the President, Le Banyan de PEC presided over the function. Mr. V. Balakrishnan, Supt. of Police (Traffic-North) delivered an awareness talk about road safety to the students of PEC. Mr. D. Vengadessa Perumal, (Alumnus of PEC) the Vice-President, LBdP briefed the objectives & activities of the one-year old organization and proposed vote of thanks. Followed by this talk, the Guest of Honour in the presence of Dean (Students) and the Principal deployed four number of barricades in front of the entrance on the ECR for the safety of the students and staff. These barricades were sponsored by LBdP.
