Pondicherry Engineering College is an Institution promoted and fully funded by the Government of Puducherry. The College was started in 1984 under the VII Five Year Plan. It is an autonomous Institution for the purposes of administration, staff recruitment and College development and is managed by a Board of Governors. The College is affiliated to Pondicherry University, Pondicherry, for the academic purposes. The College has been growing from strength to strength since its inception.

AICTE-QIP Sponsored One Week Short Term Course on "5G mmWave Radio Transmission for Ultra-High Speed Wireless Technologies" was inaugurated on Monday, the 13th November, 2017. Dr. M. Tamilarasi, Prof. & Head, ECE welcomed the participants. Dr. G. Vijayalakshmi, one of the Coordinators of the STC introduced the profile of the Chief Guest and briefed about the contents of the course. Dr. P. Dananjayan, the Principal delivered presidential address. Dr. ABHISHEK KUMAR GUPTA, Asst. Professor, Dept. of EE, IIT Kanpur delivered inaugural and keynote address. Dr. S. Tamilselvan, Coordinator of the STC proposed vote of thanks. 45 participants from various states of the country attend the short term course.
AICTE-QIP Sponsored Short Term Course on Internet of Everything (IoE) was inaugurated on Monday, the 6th November, 2017 by Dr. N. SHANMUGAVEL, Principal, National Engineering College, Kovilpatti. Dr. P. Dananjayan, the Principal presided over the function. Dr. M. Tamilarasi, Prof. & Head, ECE welcomed the gathering and Dr. S. Himavathi, Dean(Research) and QIP Institute Coordinator delivered felicitation address. Dr. R. Gunasundari, Professor, ECE introduced the profile of the Chief Guest and Dr. K. Jayanthi, Professor, ECE proposed vote of thanks. This five-days course is attended by faculty from all over India.
A competition based on the seminar on Women’s Legal Rights and Empowerment was held on 25th October, 2017 and 53 students, both from the UG and PG courses actively participated. S. Gomathi, II B.Tech (EEE) won the first prize ( ₹ 2,000/-). V.Buela Jenifer of II  B.Tech (Chem) won the second prize ( ₹ 1,500/-) S.Vignesh of I B.Tech (ECE), Anishya Premi of II  B.Tech (Chem), Raman Kishore of I B.Tech (ECE), Aishwarya.S.K. of I B.Tech (Chem) and S.Pavithra of Final Year B.Tech (EEE) won the third prize. ( ₹ 1,000/-). Yasmin of II  B.Tech (Chem) and M.Janani of II  B.Tech (Chem) won the consolation prizes. The seminar and the competition was coordinated by Dr.S.Kanmani, (Advisor, Women’s Cell), Dr.R.Kalpana (Convenor, Women’s Cell), Dr.K.Guejalatchoumy and Dr.R.Rajathy with the support of the members of the Women’s Cell.
A National Commission for Women (NCW) sponsored Seminar on Women’s Legal Rights and Empowerment was held on 23rd October, 2017. Dr. K.Latchoumy, Director-cum-Law Officer, Women’s Commission, Puducherry delivered the seminar on various articles, laws and acts related to Women’s Legal rights. Many Students and staff of various departments and sections of PEC participated in the seminar. The Principal Prof. P. Dananjayan, Prof. Dr. S. Subramanian, Dean(Admin) and Dr. K. Vivekanandan, Prof. & Dean (Students) addressed the gathering.
