Pondicherry Engineering College is an Institution promoted and fully funded by the Government of Puducherry. The College was started in 1984 under the VII Five Year Plan. It is an autonomous Institution for the purposes of administration, staff recruitment and College development and is managed by a Board of Governors. The College is affiliated to Pondicherry University, Pondicherry, for the academic purposes. The College has been growing from strength to strength since its inception. PEC is ranked 76 in Engineering Category by NIRF India Rankings 2019.

☛ The Academic Council, Pondicherry University has granted two additional chances (May & November, 2019) as one-time measure for all students admitted from the academic year 2003-2004 onwards (PU regulations). [Notification]
☛ The Women Cell initiates a counseling programme for the girls students on all the working days. The members of the cell will be available in the office of the Women Cell as per the schedule. The girl students are advised to make use of this opportunity. [Schedule]
The Department of Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering inaugurated the EIE Students' Council – FUSION 2K19 for the academic year 2019-2020 on 18th September,2019 at the Seminar Hall, Chemical Department. Dr.P.Thirusakthimurugan, Prof. & Head, Dept of EIE welcomed the gathering. The Principal in-charge Dr.N.Sreenath gave the presidential address. The Dean students and Registrar Dr.K.Vivekanandan felicitated the gathering. The chief guests Mr.K.Ganabady Raja, Senior Consultant, Infosys Ltd. and Mrs. R. Suguna, Manager (Construction-Instrumentation) Engineers India Ltd. delivered an inspirational speech and released the magazine ‘INSTRUMENTEERS’ for the academic year (2019-20).
Department of Mechanical Engineering conducted a Technical Meet on behalf of Students Council on 13/09/2019 by a distinguished alumnus of PEC - Batch (1995-99), Dr. Vijayabaskar Narayanan Murthy, Scientist -F, Research CENTRE IMARAT (DRDO) Dr.APJ ABDUL KALAM MISSILY COMPLEX, Hyderabad. (Topic: DOME OPENING MECHANISM FOR AN EXO-ATMOSPHERIC INTERCEPTOR FLIGHTS). Dr.K.Mahadevan, Professor and Head Presided over the function. Faculties and students of Mechanical Engineering attended the function largely.The department of Computer Science and Engineering inaugurated the CSE Students' council - The HUB for the academic year 2019-20 on 5th September, 2019 at the PEC auditorium. Dr. R. Manoharan, HOD -Dept. Of CSE welcomed the gathering. The Dean-Students 
and Registrar Dr.K.Vivekanandan felicitated the gathering. Dr.S.Kothandaraman, Principal delivered the presidential address. The chief guest Mr.Sarath Kuruppath, motivational speaker and leadership trainer-Ruthra Fierce, Puducherry delivered a motivational speech. Meritorious students from each year of B.Tech, M.Tech and MCA programmes of CSE department were awarded prizes. The inauguration event was followed by cultural performances from the students of each year of the department. Rolling trophy was presented to the 2nd year students for best cultural performance.

This has glorified the implementation of theme under "JAL SHAKTHI ABHIYAN" Govt . of India. The Inauguration was celebrated with the august presence of the Chief Guest, Prof (Dr) S. Mohan , Indian Institute of Technology. Madras presenting the need and implementation measures of water Conservation in Pondicherry and India. Principal, Prof.S. Kothandaraman, presided over the function steering the need of water harvesting and water balance in the PEC campus. Mr. S. Gulothungan Asst. Gen. Manager, Puducherry Branch, Indian Bank felicitated the function. Dr R. Saravanane, Prof. & Head, Civil Engg co-ordinated the event with huge gamut of students of undergraduate & Post-Graduate students for its fruitful outcome.
