Pondicherry Engineering College is an Institution promoted and fully funded by the Government of Puducherry. The College was started in 1984 under the VII Five Year Plan. It is an autonomous Institution for the purposes of administration, staff recruitment and College development and is managed by a Board of Governors. The College is affiliated to Pondicherry University, Pondicherry, for the academic purposes. The College has been growing from strength to strength since its inception. PEC is ranked 76 in Engineering Category by NIRF India Rankings 2019.

GATE-2020 Achiever: Mr. Vijay Aravindh.V of Final year ECE of the Dept. of ECE, Pondicherry Engineering College has secured the 58th All India Rank in the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2020 exams conducted in the month of February 2020 in the Electronics & Communication Engineering stream. He has secured 72 out of 100 and a GATE Score of 876. The faculty, HoD and the Principal congratulated Mr. Vijay Aravindh on his achievement.
Neura 2020, a National Level Technical Symposium, conducted by the department of Information Technology, PEC was inaugurated on the 12th, March 2020 by Dr. E. Vijayakrishna Rapaka, Principal, Rajiv Gandhi College of Engineering and Technology, Puducherry. More than 1000 students have participated in the symposium from various parts of our country. Dr. Santhi Baskaran, Prof. & HoD/IT welcomed the gathering. Dr. R. Anada Natarajan, Principal In-charge presided over the function. Dr. P. Boobalan, Student council coordinator briefed about Neura 2020. Dr. K. Vivekanandan, Dean-Students gave the Felicitation address. Dr. V. Govindasamy proposed vote of thanks. The symposium was conducted for two days and more than 27 technical and non-technical events were organized as a part of it.
Various Cultural competitions and prize distribution ceremony were organized as part of International Women's Day 2020 by the Women's Cell, PEC, on 9th March 2020, at PEC auditorium . Dr. S. Kothanadaraman, Principal presided over the function. Dr. Gnanou Florence Sudha, Professor and Head/ECE was the Guest of Honor. Dr. K. Vivekanandan, Dean (Students) felicitated the function. The winners of all the events were awarded cash prizes/ medals/ trophies along with certificates. The "Quaintrelle '20" title was awarded to Ms. A. Keerthana of III year , Chemical Engineering Department. The gathering was welcomed by Dr. K. Guajelatchoumy. The annual report of women cell activities for the Academic year 2019 -2020 was presented by Ms. Sheeba Betsy, Student Secretary and the vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. R. Rajathy, Convenor, Women Cell.
In an inter-collegiate Cricket Tournament held among the colleges under Directorate of Higher and Technical Educationfor the staff members, the PEC team won the match by 6 wickets against the runner-up team from Tagore Government Arts and Science College. Dr. R. Sundaramurthy, Asst. Professor, PEC was declared as the Man of the Match.
An expert talk by the eminent professional photographer Mr.Senthilkumar Kandhakrishnan, who had travelled over forty countries and won over 140 International Awards including 36 Gold Medals, had been organised by the Photography Club of PEC on 03.3.20. Dr.M.Thachayani, Convener of the club, welcomed the chief guest and briefed about the club activities. Principal and Patron of the club, Prof.Dr.S.Kothandaraman delivered the felicitation address. In the inspiring and highly interactive session, attended by 45 participants, the guest speaker shared his experiences and thrown light on the nuances of photography using his various award-winning photographs. Members of the club, Ms.M.Roubiga and Mr.K.Aakashraj did the anchoring and proposed the vote of thanks.
